My name is Kimberly Dorick and I am the daughter (victim) of my mother Jane Dornick. My mother has been incarcerated since 2013 for the charge of sexual exploitation of a minor. Since I was about 3 years old, my mother was a single parent who took care of my brother and I. She worked at our local town newspaper The Observer. She was a journalist, editor and newspaper deliverer. My brother and I lived normal lives.
I am advocating for her for numerous reasons. Yes, she is my mother, but most importantly she is being punished wrongly. Growing up she was never an abusive parent, never seemed off in any way, more importantly never had a criminal history.
I had shown up to her sentencing hearing to advocate for her and to share my "victim's statement" in which I had full support of her and her release. I still believe she should be released. Thirty years of imprisonment for my mother while the pedophile receives almost HALF the time is a real failure in the justice system.
My mother is NOT a danger to society or children. She loved children and was never involved with anyone underage in her entire life. Her friends and family are all supportive of her release because she is not a woman capable of committing such a horrendous crime.
My mother has a huge heart and almost never worries about herself. All her life she took care of everyone around her, strangers and all. I had no ideal what she was going through when I was growing up so I was never able to appreciate her while I could.
Even in Federal prison, she is advocating for others, helping and volunteering. She thrives off other peoples happiness and the gratification she gets after doing some good. As the "victim," it seems like my voice is unheard. I would have believed that my word meant something to others, but it does not. I am more mentally and emotionally damaged after the Federal government threw my mother into prison. Not only did they take away my Mom, but my only real supporter. The only person who was able to be there for me when I needed and support me through the rest of my life.
To this day, I only get a 15 minute phone call once a day. That's not enough. I need my mother and I need people to see that she is not a dangerous woman. She is not a threat to society. More importantly she is NOT a criminal. I will stand by her from now until the end of time and will not stop advocating for her release.

FACT: Non violent sex offender's mandatory minimum, time is more than most murderers receive at sentencing. Murder does NOT carry a mandatory minimum sentence like sex offenses. The vast majority of sex crimes are NOT violent yet all sex offenses are considered a "crime of violence."
MISSION: To bring awareness to the discrimination of sex offenders, especially femal sex offenders during their prosecution by the government and throughout their time in the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP.)
ABOUT ME: I am 61 years old and was arrested almost 10 years ago in a small town in New Jersey. I received a 30 year sentence as a first-time non-violent sex offender. Since arriving in BOP custody, I have been a victim of bullying and physical abuse by other inmates because of my "crime." Policy further chastises us by denying us access to what little family and frinds we have left through email and video visits. This narrows our support system greatly. We are also deemed "ineligible" to participate in any kind of programming that can shorten our sentence. Most recently certain sex offenders were found to be "safety and security risks" and could not attend the Children's Day event.
Someone needs to address this subject in the BOP!
PLEASE HELP TO STOP THE DISCRIMINATION!

Hi Tyler,
I would like to participate in you PenPal Program. So please keep me informed. Also, female sex offenders in the Federal system need some help with the discrimination we suffer as compared to other crimes. We cannot have email of video visits, cannot go to camp and cannot get out early for ANY REASON! This needs to be addressed! It is sheer discrimination at its finest! Thank you for all of your hard work and I enjoy reading your newsletters.
