When I was received at Dodge Correctional
(reception prison), I Made Myself two promises
ONE; I committed to Not allowing the actions of
others to affect Me iN aN unbecoming MANNer, and
two; I knew I would leave prison better than
I arrived.
I decided to better myself through education.
When I realized college credit would be
unbelievably difficult to earn I had to focus ON
Something More immediate and tangible.
Since it's the law that put Me in prison,
Keeps Me here and is My Only hope for an early
release I turned my attention there.
I spent endless hours in the law library. I
read countless cases laws. I typed Numerous
Motions yet filed very few. I would start
typing a Motion, do more research, stop, redirect,
type, print, edit, retype, research, contemplate, retype,
print, edit theN sit ON it. Through bottomless cups
of coffee and Multiple frustrations I put
Myself through paralegal training.
IN 2017 I filed a civil suit against the
WI DOC (Western District of Wisconsin case
[REDACTED]); IN 2018 I filed a Writ of Error
Coram Nobis in Trempealeau County
Circuit Court. IN 2021 I filed a Motion
to Vacate Void Judgment. I'M confident
in My abilities.
Pg. 1
I've helped Many people. I type civil
compliants for fun, take ON some criminal
stuff if I feel compelled to (I have to
feel strongly about it), give out legal advise
for free, etc. I've helped so Many
people file EIPS that accumulated we've
all gotten more than 20,000.00. I
don't ask for anything in return. I
humble myself to the reality that we're
all stuck here together. If someone
gives me Something I'm grateful. I have
a hard time asking for things. When
Someone asks how much it'll cost I say
'Whatever you think is fair.' I feel I'm
an exception to the rule. That's why I
can do extraordinary things in the courts.
I was recently offered $100,000.00 to
settle the civil suit. I didn't take it. I'm
worth More.
People ask me questions and usually
respect My opinion. I just want to go
home.
Wisconsin criminal law is bent. The
Public Defender's are by and large totally
incompetent. The good attorney's won't do
criminal law. The Smart ones leave the state.
The incarcerated population of Wisconsin
is stuck with unprofessional representation
Pg 2
that is overworked and underpaid. IN counties
that revoked probation, and parole ON
hearsay allegations. District attorneys
over-charge to secure a plea deal because
it's all about the Almighty Conviction.
The higher the Conviction Rate the
More Money the County Needs to
Prosecute the Parolees and Probationers.
Cities, Towns and Villages are over-policed
and entirely political. If you
don't know Someone where you're arrested
you better have the Money for a good
local lawyer. God forbid you bring
counsel in from another county, Now you're
a flight risk and your bail is going up.
Since Wisconsin has No Bail Bonds or
10% down payment rules you better
have the whole amount in cash or you're
Staying in county jail where you'll be
charged every day because it's Pay to
Stay. Even if you have assets circuit
courts have No rules in place to accept
surety. Likelyhood of conviction-More than
50%. It's guilty until proven innocent.
Prisons are overpopulated and perpetually
understaffed. Treatment programs are offered
at the end of the sentence. Which Means
Persons IN Our Care (PIOC) sit doing
Pg. 3
dead time until Big Brother decides
to provide treatment. Sure you could
get a job. Then prison staff automatically
take 50% for court obligations
restitution or child support. Now you're
slaving for pennies ON the dollar for
very little reason besides being bored
out of your skull. No wonder fights,
verbal altercations and disorderly conduct
is so prevelant.
I do what I can. Sometimes I feel
like a small fish in an ocean of
Corruption.
Maybe, just Maybe things will start
getting better soon. That's My prayer.
I've been praying it for 16 years and
I'll keep doing it until something
does actually change.
Pray for me and everyone stuck in
this Prison Industrial Complex
Wisconsin, Department of
(Protected) Corruption.
If the WIDOC was a business it
would have shriveled up and blew away.
Problem is it's state funded. State funding
doesn't shrivel up. Thus this Madness
Continues. Please help.
We can all help to help ourselves.
Pg. 4
PIOC'S can file compliants (that's our
right). It's better to file Multiple
compliants ON One issue instead of
having a spokesperson. It's too easy
for the Administration to claim that's
a petition, label.it "gaNg activity" and
Not hear it. If multiple people
experience the same problem than each
of them should file their own compliant.
We can file civil suits (that's our
right). Depending ON the intention of
the filer civil suits can be an
effect Method of challenging rules
and collecting Money for damages.
We can have disciplinary hearing
tickets heard by circuit courts through
Writs of Certiorari.
We can have revokation decisions heard
by the Division of Hearing and Appeals
then the county the conviction originated
through the same Writ of Certiorari.
We can challenge every ticket we
get and demand progressive punishment.
Which Means you Must be
sufficiently warned before getting a
ticket. Verbal warning, written warning
then a ticket. Not a ticket right away.
That's bored CO'S playing games.
Pg. 5
Remember we are Monitored by people
who are aditicated to Facebook, You Tube,
etc. Social Media rules the world. They
can't have access here. So we become
their boredom relievers. What do you
think they sit back and talk about for
eight to sixteen hours every day? Us!
Sometimes they'll break-up the rotation
and gossip about each other. How often
do you think they talk about their goals
and ambitions? Being a correctional
officer is the epotime of their dreams!
Prisons are built in rural areas for that
exact reason. This way the local people
get jobs with the factory, the
prison or collect SSI.
The Prison Industrial Complex is a
failed expirement that has lasted beyond
it's death date. Pumped full of state
and federal funding it continues to
Survive. Now WE are the Survivors
of it's evil machinations.
It's not all bad though. We still get
three hots and a cot. (smile) And we can
file stuff, challenge stuff and ask for
reviews. Everyone has a supervisor.
Keep the faith and continue to fight the
good fight. Onward!

Words of Power
I'm told that words written are not equal to words spoken.
This statement makes me wonder.
Is reading a text message the same as getting a phone call?
Here is a better question:
Since I'm an author and I enjoy writing does the work I do mean less than the work other people do? As I sit back contemplating these questions I realize the answers are essentially the same.
Written word is simply not as meaningful as spoken word.
Here is a different perspective:
Ready?
Set.
Read!
When was the last time you felt goosebumps?
Were you scared? Thrilled? Or did you just need a sweater?
Can you recall the chill that ran down your spine?
Remember the way your breath caught?
The way your body reacted?
Do you feel it now?
I hope so.
Why?
I write for a reason.
I want everything I do to mean something.
Writing is important to me.
Through writing I can feed the mind which touches the spirit and soul.
How?
I'm a creator.
I create using the English language.
When?
I create the most when I feel inspired.
Inspiration and motivation are more precious to me than silver and gems.
I create the best writing when I feel good.
How come?
You read what I wrote and feel good too.
Okay?
I have thoughts in my head.
Those thoughts become words.
I collect those words and many others.
Over a steaming cup of hot coffee those words become writing.
Think about that for a second.
Why?
I want what I say to make a difference.
I want to speak to the heart of the matter.
Why?
I don't write for myself.
I write for you.
I write to please you, to help you, to encourage you, to keep you.
I want these words to move you.
Why?
This gives my life purpose.
I'm more interested in building bridges than destroying to make myself feel better.
I could be wrong.
It seems to me the effect words have are only as potent as the energy the creator puts in them.

Cup of Coffee:
Daily Dose of Motivation
I wholeheartedly believe that hidden inside each of us is a phenomenal story.
The story could be short or long.
The plot line may include romance, erotica, drama or all of thee above.
You could base your story on true events, write fiction or use a combination thereof.
You might even learn to write well by reading great authors.
Ultimately it is important for you to tell your story.
Wondering where to begin?
I've been told the hardest part of writing is starting.
Here is a different perspective.
Ready?
Set.
Read!
Writing a story is easy.
There only needs to be a beginning, middle and end.
The material used to write about is open for discussion.
The writing process begins with an idea.
Why?
Ideas are formed in the mind.
Everyone is capable of thinking and creating.
How?
Start with what you know, work in your experience then add your perspective.
Why?
We write about what we understand.
How?
The difference between a good story and a great story is the magic the story teller uses.
Okay?
Once you start writing the next hurdle is finishing what you started.
Why?
It is easy to get bogged down in details and lose sight of the big picture.
Feel stuck?
The simplest thing a writer can do is write.
On a daily basis.
A little here, a little there.
It all adds up.
How?
Motivation is essential.
Motivation moves you, it gets the creative juices flowing and keep you going.
Motivation is a personal thing.
People have different passions.
Okay?
Discovering what motivates you is a key.
A key that opens door.
How?
Motivation tends to lead to inspiration.
Inspiration comes from above.
As above, so below.
I could be wrong.
It seems to me that a daily dose of motivation is a vital tool for great writing.

Cup of Coffee:
Unequaled Freedom
I've heard people say the imagination knows no limits.
I'm inclined to agree.
Observe Plato, Socrates, Pythagoras, Shakespeare, Dante, Sir Francis Bacon, Mother Goose, Brothers
Grimm, Dr. Seuss, Ernest Hemingway, etc.
Here is a different perspective.
Ready?
Set.
Read!
An idea is contagious.
It spreads like wildfire.
Witness the unrelenting power of Democracy, Prisons and Rights.
Democracy is built on the idea of equal representation and taxation.
Prisons are built on the idea that people can be controlled
Rights are built on the idea of universal freedom.
At what cost?
Americans live in a society that teaches freedom isn't free yet no amount of human sacrifice is sufficient.
Is that true freedom?
America's constitution grants rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
The thirteenth amendment make is possible for those same Americans to be subjected to involuntary
servitude (slavery) upon conviction of a crime.
That means when I was convicted my right to independence was taken.
Why?
We are convinced that one choice must define the entire human experience until expiration.
Is that freedom?
What about the living masses caught in the never ending machinations of the infinite "criminal justice" system?
Where is their freedom?
Is this still America?
Feeling overwhelmed?
Imagine how the imprisoned masses feel.
Want to glimpse it?
Every aspect of prison life is controlled.
Food, clothes, housing, communication, money.
From intake to release to return.
Can a person kept in these conditions experience freedom?
Yes?
No?
Maybe so?
I believe it is possible.
How?
Prisons lock up bodies but cannot lock up minds.
Want proof?
When I was sentenced to prison I was told to sit down and be quiet.
Don't rock the boat.
Leave well enough alone.
My lifestyle was taken. I was made a dependent.
Dependent on the government and their services alone.
The government tries to control me by restraining my physical movement.
I have to sign in and out to leave the building I'm housed on.
In an attempt to convince me I need their assistance I'm told I need to be in prison.
That I cannot leave.
What?
I smile.
Why?
They cannot imprison my imagination.
What?
Inside these concrete jungles I discovered new passions.
I look to the things I can do and find ways to live meaningfully.
Want to know more?
I retain my right to access the courts so I study, learn and utilize the law.
I retain my right o freedom of expression so I hone my craft in expressing my ideas through creative writing.
I retain my right to religious liberty so I practice my way of life faithfully.
Can you see?
Even while in prison I'm still free.
How is that possible?
I hold firmly to my convictions and beliefs.
What are my conviction and beliefs?
The circumstances I find myself in are temporary.
The things I do while here will last a lifetime.
What is one thing I can do today to improve my conditions?
I could be wrong.
It seems to me the freedoms we have are truly imaginative.

Cup of Coffee:
Upward Mobility
I'm told that proof of progress is shown through bigger, better and faster
Bigger house. Better phone. Faster car.
If you were put in a position where you could not own a home or had to sell it to pay legal fees, phones are steel and plastic monsters and no cars are allowed besides to transport you shackled and cuffed
from one location to another how would you gauge progress?
Here is a different perspective.
Ready?
Set.
Read!
Is it possible to have a bigger home when your house is made of white washed cinder blocks and sized
consistent with a broom closet?
How about a better phone when the only access you have to communication is tightly monitored and
recorded?
Are you able to get a faster car when you are held captive inside and electric fence surrounded by guard
towers and physical movement is written on sign in sheets?
Inside these loveless walls everything is pre-approved or denied, tagged then logged so staff can
regulate property limits.
How does one show progress and improvement in this type of environment?
Could it be found in the progress reports prepared by fallible humans who only care about the bad
things you've done in life?
Could it be found in heartfelt letters written by civilians who struggle to understand the type of life we live without having experienced it?
Could it be found in creative writing fostered to cope with the hardships of daily living?
Is it somewhere inside the art we make that screams for attention and wishes to be set free?
I think it's simpler than that.
I think it can be found in the meaningful connections created by people being held against their will.
I see it in the creativity and imagination of the countries incarcerated masses.
I could be wrong.
It seems that proof of progress is evident by how lasting and real it is.
Shayd C. Mitchell
Cup of Coffee:
Method and Material
I've heard people say they want to write well.
When I hear that I'm left wanting.
Wanting what?
Wanting something more powerful.
Everyone wants to be a good writer.
What about a great one?
Personally I want to write amazing material.
Material unheard of or not seen in a long time.
How do I begin?
There are options.
I could start with the beginning since most things start with a simple idea.
I could start in the middle where the exciting stuff is happening now.
I could start with the end and work my way forward.
Here is a different perspective.
Ready?
Set.
Read!
Some of the key ingredients of amazing writing is great material plus a good method.
Material is the stuff creative writers write about.
There is no limit to the material that can be used to write.
Method is the formula used to do the writing.
There are typically three types of formulas:
1.) The calculated method,
2.) The chaos method, and
3.) The controlled chaos method
The calculated method involves in depth research, intense story and character development plus
meticulous deployment.
The chaos method involves simply writing until completion.
The controlled chaos method involves theme creation, story line development, conflict and resolution
plus plot twists.
The theme is what a story is about.
Story line is the direction a story moves.
Involve conflict and resolution in the story line to capture the reads attention.
Solve problems.
Make the story relatable.
Add plot twists to keep the readers coming back for more.
Where do you put the conflict?
Opening and closing scenes.
Scenes are subplots that complement the main theme.
Scenes can be any length.
Where do you put the resolution?
Add the resolution by introducing characters and motives.
Good or bad.
Base characters on people you know.
That way your writing is more credible.
Remember that everyone is flawed so try not to create flawless characters.
Okay?
As the writer you control the pace and movement of the whole production.
Keep in mind the reader is following you.
You set the example.
How?
Your mind is the seat of your spirit.
Your heart is the seat of your soul.
Interested?
I hope so.
Let your words speak for you.
Avoid the trap of self-explanation.
Start writing by rereading what you previously wrote.
If what you are reading doesn't make sense rewrite it.
Why?
If you don't get it the reader definitely won't.
Okay?
Once you feel good about what you have done ask an open minded person for feedback.
Be open to constructive criticism.
You know your material and method.
Why?
Ask someone who is unfamiliar with your method and material to see what you have done then tell
you what they think.
Incorporate their feedback to make your writing better.
It is not important how you start.
What is important is how you finish.
I could be wrong.
It seems to me anyone is capable of amazing writing.
